A newly-engaged couple have been charged in the fatal shooting of the mother of the woman’s ex-boyfriend using what appears to be a 3D-printed gun.
Jack Doherty, 23, and Shaylyn Moran, 18, were arraigned Thursday on charges of murder and conspiracy at District Court, Providence.
Doherty faces a total of seven charges, including firing the gun and assaulting Pawtucket detective Justin Gould. Moran has been charged with murder and the intent to commit homicide, WJAR reported.

They are accused of fatally shooting Cheryl Smith, 54, at her home at 100 Baxter St on New Year’s Day. Police claim that Moran is the ex-girlfriend of Smith’s 21-year-old son, Leonard Troufield, The Boston Globe reported.
Officials found Smith with several gunshot wounds to her chest and she was later pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital.
Detective Sgt. Christopher LeFort claimed Moran and Troufield had a tumultuous relationship and had accused one another of being violent.
Troufield was arrested in October on charges of domestic violence and his trial is pending, according to The Boston Globe.
He was at his mother’s home at the time of the incident but was not injured. Pawtucket detectives later found Doherty and Moran at a nearby Hampton Inn.
They arrested the pair and seized a 9mm gun which is believed to be the murder weapon, according to LeFort.

Cops claimed the handgun resembled a 3D printed gun in images which Doherty posted on his apparent Facebook account. Some images appeared to show the gun as it was being manufactured.
A Facebook page that appears to belong to Doherty apparently shows the pair after the incident with the comment: ‘We some fighters and some shooters.’
In a Facebook post from the account on New Year’s Eve, Doherty took a selfie as he points a gun into the mirror, along with the caption: ‘Bloody Boy Santana.’

He told the Providence Journal: ‘I thought someone just got whacked in an accident out there on the street.
‘Then my grandson came running downstairs and said, “Grandpa, I heard three gunshots, and they seemed to have come from next door.”‘
